Dubbed Cape Town’s “most vibrant market”, the Bay Harbour Market in Hout Bay has a lot to offer. With a homely atmosphere, a fireplace and live music, it makes sense why hundreds of the coolest people flock to the market.
The market also offers a variety of food offerings from freshly baked breads, spicy seafood and fresh fruits – the aromas alone will have your mouth watering! Craft beer on tap, locally made clothes and unique works of art are also a few of the many treats at the Bay Harbour Market.
And all of this, set in a shabby chic refurbished old factory.
The Grand Africa Café welcomes you with breathtaking views of the waterfront, white sun beds and beach props to set the ambience. Be sure to keep a look out for their giant red-lip shaped sofa. It’s the perfect prop for your next insta-moment.
Their cocktails are colourful and potent – with a balanced mixed between local and international fusions. The food menu has a delicious selection of signature meals, from salmon salads to their grand burgers with their secret tomato chutney sauce.
The café also hosts a weekly Jazz session on Sundays, which creates a great ambience where one can just lounge on the sun-beds, enjoy the music as the sun sets while listening to live performances by jazz artists and bands. Bliss!
One of the most rewarding ways to spend a Sunday is going on a guided hike. Surfing Sundays
Cape Town has dozens of surf spots along its coast, from expansive beaches with big waves to coves with small swells. And surprisingly, the Cape Peninsula water temperatures rise during the winter months, meaning June, July and August are the perfect time to surf since big winter storms create the biggest swells.
Every surfing spot offer something different, such as Muizenburg which is a popular learning spot to Scarborough Beach which is less congested and for more advanced surfers.
Llandudno, which is a 15 minute drive from Cape Town’s city centre, is also well-liked among surfers and is not for the faint-hearted – the waves often get really hollow!
If road tripping is your vibe, then Dunes which is a 40 minute drive from the city in the direction of Noordhoek Beach is the one. Surfers out there have reported six to eight foot waves at Dunes, so definitely for advanced surfers.
The most exhilarating waves can be found at Crayfish Factory. A 50 minute drive from Cape Town will take you to waves that are up to 15 feet high! Most novice surfers steer clear from this surfing spot, but if you’re fearless then Crayfish Factory is exactly what you need.
