Things you can only do in Cape Town

There is no denying the fact that the Mother City is cool, quirky and one of a kind and we love her all the more for it. In fact, not only do we embrace her quirks, we celebrate them!  If there’s one thing that she never claims to be, it’s boring and predictable. We challenge you to NOT fall head-over-heels in love with Cape Town’s wildly cool and uniquely authentic ways. Here are a few of our favourite things you can only do in Cape Town that will undoubtedly make you fall in love with this vibrant city.

The Mother City’s weather is every bit as bold, boisterous and blissfully unpredictable as her personality. It’s completely normal to experience all four seasons in one day. In fact, you might even experience them all in the space of a few hours. Don’t be surprised if you experience a scorching hot summer’s day in the dead of winter, a sudden downpour on a beautiful summer’s day or a wild windstorm completely out of the blue. Instead of fighting Cape Town’s unpredictable weather patterns, the best thing to do is to just embrace and enjoy every second.

Experience the full glorious force of one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature – Table Mountain!

The tall-standing giant of the Mother City skyline, Table Mountain, is not only one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, but our pride and joy too. Experiencing all the beauty and adventure this mountainous giant has to offer is something you can only do in Cape Town and boy, you’re in for quite the adventure! Besides embarking on an exciting hike up the mountain, this gentle giant certainly has a few more surprises up its sleeve. You can enjoy an aerial cableway ride up and down or if you’re feeling a little more daring and adventurous, you can choose to abseil down too! Now that’s a super cool Cape Town bucket-list activity that’s bound to get all the adrenalin junkies and adventure seeker’s hearts racing.

In the Mother City, we consider our charismatic marine life as an integral part of our local Cape Town crew. Because who said you should limit your circle of friends to humans only? Cape Town is home to a thriving marine life, including what locals refer to as the Marine Big 5; Cape Fur Seals, African Penguins, Whales, Dolphins and Mola Mola Sunfish. But besides merely observing these Cape Town ocean locals from the shoreline, we take our marine life love affair a step further by enjoying thrilling adventures and experiences with them by our side. From snorkelling with Cape Fur Seals, kayaking and swimming with African Penguins, whale watching adventures to deep sea diving and stand-up-paddle boarding there is a marine life adventure for everyone.

It’s certainly no secret that Capetonians love their wine. So much so that we’ll celebrate just about every occasion (no matter how small), celebration, lunch, brunch, dinner and everything in between with a glass of Cape vino in hand. The best thing of all is that no one will judge you for it. Even if you don’t consider yourself to be much of a wine lover at first, trust us, you will be soon. The Mother City certainly has a way of converting non-wine-lovers to die-hard wine enthusiasts with her unwavering love of wild wine drinking ways. So, just jump on the Cape Town wine train (or tram) and ride it with your head held high and a full wine glass in hand.

Take a short road-trip & escape to a whole new world entirely

One of the best things about Cape Town is the fact that you can escape to a whole new world entirely all without having to spend a fortune or tons of time getting there. Home to a wide variety of incredible nature reserves, beaches, wineland escapes, wilderness areas and off the beaten path hidden gems, means that you can pack your bags, load up your car and go on a spontaneous adventure any time you choose. A tent and sleeping bag will also do just fine if you don’t mind roughing it. Whether you’re looking to enjoy an epic one-day adventure or linger a little longer to experience everything Cape Town has to offer, the choice is yours.

Go on the ultimate sunset chasing adventure – Because in Cape Town, we don’t chase cars, we chase sunsets!

Known for its beautiful sherbet coloured sunsets, there is no sunset quite as magical as a Cape Town sunset. But instead of merely sitting back and savouring every glorious second of watching the sun go down, Cape Town locals take their love affair to a whole other level by going on the ultimate sunset chasing adventures. Some of our favourite sunset spots that absolutely deserve a mention are: Lions Head, Signal Hill, Table Mountain, Camps Bay Tidal Pools, Kloof Corner, Victoria Road, Llandudno, Chapman’s Peak Drive, Bloubergstrand and of course our secret sundowner spot (you’ll have to join us on our Urban Safari tour to find out where this one is).
